1. HACCP
The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification enables you to demonstrate your commitment to food haccp safety and customer satisfaction, as well as continuously meeting the expectations of a changing world.

HACCP is an international principle defining the requirements for effective control of food safety.

HACCP compliance / HACCP certification helps organisations focus on the hazards that affect food safety and hygiene and systematically identifies them by setting up control limits at critical points during the food production process.

HACCP is built around seven principles :

• Analysis of biological, chemical or physical food hazards
• Identification of critical control points at the raw materials, storage, processing, distribution and consumption stages
• Establishment of critical control limits and preventive measures, for example, minimum cooking temperature and time
• Monitoring of these critical control points
• Establishment of corrective actions
• Record keeping record and
• Systematic and regular auditing of the systems in place by independent third party certification bodies

2. BRC

In reaction to the many food scares that have occurred, such as BSE infected beef, salmonella contamination of poultry and eggs, high levels of listeria in dairy products, the British Retail Consortium (BRC), a UK trade organisation that represents the interests of the UK retailers has published the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety, globally setting the minimum standard of hygiene in food manufacturing plants.

The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 5 is for any supplier, regardless of product or country of origin, that supplies food products to UK retailers. BRC Certification is not a legal requirement but it has been highly recommended by UK retailers. To comply with BRC Global Standard for Food Safety, the food suppliers and manufacturer must adopt three main criteria in their management systems :

• Adoption and implementation of HACCP
• Documented and effective quality management system and
• Control of factory environment standards, products, processes and personnel

Certifying your food safety management system against the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 5 requirements bring the following benefits :

• Enhancement of your food safety management system
• Demonstration of your commitment to producing and trading safe food
• Recognition and acceptance from the UK retailer community
• Increase in consumer confidence in your products
• Improvement of market and customer perspectives and
• Reduction of the number of supplier assessments

3. GMP
A Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification scheme provides independent verification and certification that the basic manufacturing practices and pre-requisites necessary for the implementation of an effective Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety programme are being followed.

GMP compliance are minimum common sense sanitary and processing requirements applicable to all food processing establishments. Many food industry companies have implemented the GMP certification scheme for food processing as the foundation upon which they have developed and implemented other quality and food safety management systems, such as HACCP, SQF 2000cm and ISO 9001.

Certifying your food safety management system against the GMP requirements will bring the following benefits :

• Enhancement of your food safety management system
• Demonstration of your commitment to producing and trading safe food
• Prepare you for HACCP certification
• Increase in consumer confidence in your products and
• Prepare you for inspection by regulatory authorities and other stakeholders

4. ISO

Demonstrate your commitment to quality and customer satisfaction
Customers are becoming increasingly quality-conscious. They frequently expect that suppliers pro-actively comply with the highest product and service quality standards. They also want this information up-front, in addition to being assured that your company will continue to meet their needs now and in the long term. That’s a challenge. But it’s also an opportunity companies can profit from.

Proof that you are committed to your customers
ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System certification enables you to demonstrate your commitment to service quality and customer satisfaction, as well as continuously improving your quality management systems and integrating the realities of a changing world.

ISO 9001:2000 is based on eight quality management principles :

• Customer focus
• Leadership
• Involvement of people
• Process approach
• System approach
• Continual improvement
• Fact-based decision making and
• Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

1. Halal Certificate
It is well known in the meat trade that Muslims consume halal meat. However, at times questions are asked, what is halal? In Arabic it simply means permissible or allowed. Opposite to it is haram, which means forbidden or not allowed. Arabic is the language of Qur`an, a scripture revealed to the Holy Prophet of Islam by the Almighty Allah to be followed in its entirety by the Muslims.

What now becomes abundantly clear for halal purposes is that :
1. An animal should not be dead prior to slaughter
2. A Muslim should perform slaughter
3. Any flowing blood of the carcass should be completely drained
4. Choice of modern and in vogue method has to be considered with caution and, it should be mirroring to the Islamic ethos
